God gives us melodies at the oddest times.
While driving in his Jeep, Sunny had an idea for a melody & vocal line for a tune. Thing is, when you think up that kinda stuff, you’re always in the most inopportune place or you quickly forget it. Unless, of course, you’ve got some sort of recording device. Enter the cultural phenomenon called “the cellphone”. In a panic, Sun called his cellphone’s voice-mail and sang the melody line & recited the chord progression to himself via his voice-mail. Ingenious, eh? God gives us melodies at the oddest times.
So, just to be sure, we started to track the song last night. What started as a simple worship melody line, ended up into a Starfield-meets-Switchfoot pop-worship tune. After quickly droppin’ down a drum track, acoustic, bass, and electric track, Evan, Sunny, & I kinda sat back and said, “This is really cool! Sounds like a possible single!" Like a thought can turn into a philosophy, a melody can turn into an overture. Ya dig?
Oh, btw, we (SOMERS) are playing at Hillside Baptist this Sunday morning (9:15 & 11:00am). Hillside are having a "U2 & God" service, and it should be really cool. We're playing a few U2 songs, and we'll get to watch Bill Hybel's interview with Bono about world poverty & the Aids crisis in Africa. So, without discourging you from going to your own Sunday morning service, come and check out Hillside's "U2 & God" service; should be really cool.
